Job Description and Expectations:
1. Association, term of association. We associate people, subject to Festival Entertainment approval, for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. After a mutually agreed successful season at the Festival, the new associate may be invited to join The Court Revelers permanently and
be offered opportunities for other performances throughout the year. Other performances
are not required of permanent members. Once permanent a Court Reveler is subject to
dismissal only for cause. All Court Revelers are independent contractors.
2. Rehearsals. We expect all singers to make as many as possible of the regularly scheduled
rehearsals for our group. We understand that there are occasions when people are
unavailable due to illness, family responsibilities and professional responsibilities.
Rehearsals are on Thursdays for two hours each time at locations noticed to all members. We
expect all members of The Court Revelers to be present at at least one of the all-cast
rehearsals called by the Entertainment Director and/or artistic director.
3. Music and material exclusivity. The Court Revelers will provide all members with a
collection of material in the Repertoire, which material remains the property of The Court Revelers. Members agree that they will not perform original Court Reveler material with any
other performance group, at any time or place, without the express permission of the Director.
4. Performance schedule and exclusivity. We expect a commitment to perform at the
Minnesota Renaissance Festival for all of its schedule, with the exception of "Festival Friday"
which is optional for our members. We expect that all newly hired Court Revelers commit to
no other obligations at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
5. Transportation, meals, costuming. Transportation, food and housing during the festival are
the sole responsibility of each member of the group. Members must provide their own
costume, approved in advance by the group within the guidelines of the costume director of
the Festival.
6. Performance Requirements. We expect members to be prepared on all songs in our "A" list
repertoire, off-book, by the first day of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. We expect
members to be prepared on all songs in our "AB" list repertoire by the Third Saturday of
Festival. Members are allowed to carry "cheat books" of their own creation for reference at
festival, but may not use the books in performance.
7. Publications and Marketing. Members agree to participate in any recordings or official photographs taken of the group. In the event that a member is unable to attend any recording session, the member agrees that their name and image may be included in the written material
supporting such a recording, its packaging, and marketing whether or not they are actually
participating in the performance for the term of their involvement with the group as an active
member.
8. Original Material Use. Members who contribute original lyrics, arrangements or music to the
group retain the copyright for the material, but agree that The Court Revelers shall have rights
to perform such material in perpetuity without compensation to the member. The Court
Revelers agree that all original material, whether lyrics, arrangements or music, will be
properly attributed to the author or composer in all publications of the material. Any
arrangements, lyrics or music collectively developed by the group shall remain the property
of the group, and are subject to the rules regarding Music and Material exclusivity (Section 3).
9. Tips and compensation. Each year the group shall determine the method(s) of
compensation for their several performance opportunities and sales of publications. Tips earned while performing at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival are the property of The Court Revelers unless otherwise agreed by the group. All performances, whether in full or partial
group, or solo, at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival shall be considered Court Reveler
performances, regardless of location or prior schedule, unless agreed to by the group.
